NEVER LOOK AWAY
Grant Writing, Naming

Never Look Away: Celebrating the Beauty and Struggle of Oregon’s LGBTQ+ Community. The first and only LGBTQ+ mural in Portland.

I named the mural and helped write the grant that secured major funding for this important, celebratory, and historical project. The three-story tall and 120-foot wide mural sits at the entrance/exit of a commuter train hub. The mural is situated in a place that you cannot look away from it unless you stare at the ground. This was, in part, my inspiration for naming it Never Look Away. To be seen and to be heard are what we need most as humans to feel present and respected in the world, and help us find meaning. I hope people will take in all three stories of the incredible, groundbreaking people depicted in gorgeous color.

Zoe Pilliafas from Diversa EDU helmed the project, and worked with members of the city including Pride NW. The mural was completed in August of 2021.
